There are many good reasons to join the
Herring Bay Yacht Club. Firstly, we are a
group of professionals and retired people
who all share the love of the bay and our
boats. When you arrive at Herring Bay, you
can be assured that you are among friends
and there are people around you who share
the same interests. The HBYC extends to the
entire Herring Bay region, not just a
particular marina. We host events and
social gatherings in all the harbors from
Herrington Harbour South, North and
Shipwright. We are also a members of the
Yachting Club of America (YCA). This important
association entitles our members to receive
reciprocal privileges at hundreds of marinas
and other clubs in North America. Many of
our members do not even live in this area,
but they enjoy the many benefits of
reciprocity of the HBYC and the YCA.
We are a social and yachting society of both
power and sailboats. We have many social
events and cruises throughout the area's
waters. We schedule cruises to popular
destinations with a group of club members.
On long cruises, which many folks would
never do on their own, it is a nice feeling
to look over to the boat next to you and
know you have a friend taking the trip with
you.
We have yearly events to promote boating
safety. We encourage the club to
participate in the Coast Guard Courtesy
inspections. We offer education on
navigation, rules of the road, and severe
weather conditions.
We offer
numerous club and non club events involving
overnight anchor outs and land events. This
is probably one of a new boater's greatest
fears. Is the anchor holding? Is the boat
in deep enough water? Is this a safe place
to stay the night? With a group of boats,
all rafted together, this can calm even the
most worry minded boater. We can show you
the "how to's" and the greatest places on
the Bay to spend a night. Check out our
Anchor Out schedule by clicking the
"Cruises" button.
Land
Events - We have lawn parties and barbeques
by the water in season and even events out
of season to get us together. A lot of the
cruises that we schedule have land
facilities for people who do not want to
make the trip on water. Staying at a
facility on land will allow you to still
participate in the club activities.
Day trips
- Herrington Harbour Marina is close to many
places within easy reach of a days cruise.
Many restaurants and towns are nearby.
These include such places as Annapolis, Kent
Island, St. Michael's, Galesville, and
Calvert Cliffs. Many of our club members
round up a crew to take a day hop to many of
these destinations.
Making
Friends - Since the yacht club is made up of
people of all ages, it is easy to make
friends with people who have the same
interests you do. And we all have an
interest in boating in common.
