    Bonnie was re-elected as Commodore at the start of the 2017 season and will serve her second term for 2017-2018 seasons.

    Bonnie previously held the positions of Treasurer and Quarter Master.
    The Commodore is responsible for taking command of the HBYC membership and all of its affairs. The Commodore presides over all HBYC meetings, chairs the Membership Committee and acts as an ex-officio member of all other committees.

  • Jeff Wyvill Jeff Wyvill Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore

    Jeff was re-elected as Rear Commodore at the start of the 2017 season and will serve his second term for 2017-2018 seasons.

    The Rear Commodore is responsible for assisting the Commodore and the Vice Commodore in the discharge of HBYC duties, officiating at Club events in their absence. The Rear Commodore chairs the land events, planning and scheduling with the Fleet Captain to avoid conflicts and with the Treasurer for review of contracts and funding of land events.

  • David Young David Young Vice Commodore

    David was elected as the Vice Commodore in 2015 for the 2016-2017 seasons. 


    The Vice Commodore is responsible for assisting the Commodore in the discharge of her duties and facilitating Board meetings in her absence. In addition, the Vice Commodore chairs the By-Laws Committee and the Communications Committee.

  • Joe Ortiz Joe Ortiz Fleet Captain

    Joe was elected as the Fleet Captain in 2015 for the 2016-2017 seasons.  Joe previously served as the Vice Commodore. 

    The Fleet Captain is responsible for organizing cruises and performing other duties as directed by the Commodore.  Fleet Captain arranges for cruises to yacht clubs and marinas, blocks reservations for the planned number of participating Club boats.  Fleet Captain duties include fostering good seamanship practices among members participating in Club cruising events.   Fleet Captain is the chair of the Seamanship and Safety Committee.  The Fleet Captain coordinates dates of Cruises with the Rear Commodore and contracts/expenditures with Treasurer.

  • Gregg Borchelt Gregg Borchelt Treasurer

    Gregg was nominated for the Treasurer role to fill the 1-year vacancy in 2015 as Bonnie Ortiz was elected to Commodore.

    The Treasurer is responsible for developing the HBYC annual budget, reporting all annual taxes and managing and reporting on all HBYC funds. Funded events include new memberships, membership renewals, corporate sponsorship fees, payments for fee based activities and payments to vendors. The Treasurer deposits all Club funds in the servicing bank, making disbursements for all vouchered expenses. The Treasurer keeps the official financial records, reporting monthly at scheduled Board meetings.

  • Dave Barstow Secretary

    Dave was elected as Secretary for the 2017-2018 seasons.

    The HBYC Secretary is the official corresponding officer of the Club. It is the duty of the Secretary to maintain the Club records, to include the minutes of all general and special meetings of the Club and of the Board. The Secretary supervises the preparation and release of all documents that are connected with the official business of the Club. The Secretary processes membership applications, renewals, and the creation of the "Fleet Roster". The Secretary manages all email flyers to Members announcing Club events.

  • Denise Moeller-Hassett Denise Moeller-Hassett Member At Large

    Denise was elected as the Member At Large in 2015 for the 2016-2017 seasons. 

    The Member At Large is responsible for being the liaison between the general membership and the Board, representing the concerns and equities in a timely manner to allow for continuous improvement in Club guidelines and activities. The Member At Large takes every opportunity to act as an ambassador of the club while hosting other marina fleets, to drive an increase in new memberships and attendance at HBYC events, and to ensure existing members find value in the Club activities.

    Marina was re-elected as Member at Large at the start of the 2017 season and will serve her second term for 2017-2018 seasons.

  • Dave DeAngelis Dave DeAngelis Immediate Past Commodore

    After previously serving as the HBYC Commodore for two consecutive terms, Dave now holds the position of Immediate Past Commodore and Commodore Emeritus.

    The Immediate Past Commodore sits on the Board as a voting member, providing assistance and advice when required by the Commodore. The Immediate Past Commodore's term expires when replaced by the next outgoing Commodore.

  • Michelle Sousa Michelle Sousa Quartermaster

    Michelle volunteered for the Quartermaster position for 2015, and was accepted by the Board in the February 2015.

    The Quartermaster is responsible for advising and administering the sale of all HBYC merchandise and apparel, the acquisition and distribution of supplies for Land and Cruise Events, as well as licensing the HBYC burgee/trademark and name.

    Dan Killeen was appointed for his second term in 2017.

    Dan is HBYC’s representative to the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club Association. CBYCA represents more than 100,000 recreational boaters in legislative, social, safety and environment concerns at local, state and national levels.
